Commonwealth Games

Post by Gyoza »

Apparently they're on this year. Who knew? lol

Am I alone in feeling that they're now completely irrelevant? Between footy, Giro d'Italia, NBA playoffs, and upcoming World Cup and Tour de France I had no idea they were even on this year until stuff started popping up on my Facebook. Media coverage leading up seems to have been absolutely 0% so far too.

Yeah I had similar thoughts about my own post! I do get that for swimmers and those involved in athletics it's the second biggest event there is. It is definitely losing relevance to the wider audience though. I guess the stronger professional sport gets the more this will happen. It'd be interesting to know what the TV rights went for compared to previous years.

Good luck to those competing....still won't be watching though.

Still not convinced Glasgow can hold such an event with so many different sports being played. At least the athletes will have plenty of good pubs to choose from for a bevy.

As long as they avoid the occasional "Glasgow kiss" well known around closing time....

Haha yes. Always enjoy a bit of Rab.

The area around Celtic Park got a decent amount of money pumped into it so even if the games aren't great Celtic and it's fans win anyway.

Roads all around the city being closed as the games are set to get underway. This will probably effect day to day life more in Glasgow than it did when the games were here in Melbourne.

I thought the Australian uniforms were bad until I saw the Scottish ones...

Hopefully Scotland's last ever Commonwealth games.

Yeah but unfortunately Glasgow has already had it's one day of summer so the events will be run in constant rain.
