R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
Selection dilemma this week!
Available for selection: Joe Daniher and Aaron Francis.
Can’t drop Mitch Brown, Jordan Ridley or Mason Redman.
I think Zac Clarke will go out for JD. Not sure who to drop for Francis though. Maybe Tipungwuti?

A tricky selection problem to have.
Two 6 day breaks. Selection choices may be a matter of managing player workload and who we need to match up on North and Collingwood teams.

Menzie!!
Things go awry without Jye!!

Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
JD back via Magoos IMO
If straight in, Brown will be the player dropped
Don’t think Francis should’ve been dropped to begin with, but maybe that was with 2 6 day breaks in mind or maybe disciplinary, likely straight in for Redman or Ridley...

Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
Couldn't possibly drop Brown - 25 Possies with 9 contested, 11 marks and 88% accuracy.
Out TBell (injured), David Myers (broken nose - well any excuse really),
In: Draper, Clarke,
Tossing up whether to replace Ambrose with Francis given the job on the stager Mr floppy Brown (3 goals from stages yesterday).

Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
Am not a fan of Ambrose but he made Hipwood look like a VFL player yesterday.
Daniher has to come back through the VFL surely
Francis is out on disciplinary reasons isnt he - in which case he should come back in. I cant see Redman being dropped after they obviously fast tracked him back into the team and he played well. Ridley may go out for Francis.
Otherwise no change

Yep. And for Gods sake keep Mitch Brown at least until we know what to expect from JD.
Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
Would have thought that the club may have considered JD being off for compassionate grounds anyway.Rover99 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2019 8:37 pmWindy_Hill wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2019 7:48 pm Am not a fan of Ambrose but he made Hipwood look like a VFL player yesterday.

Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
Not sure if JD will be back this week. However if not, I hope everyone takes a close look at where our goals came from last Saturday. Not one came from a bomb to the goal square. But despite that, there were still those who consistently did - including Hepppel, who, after taking a hard-worked ball on the 50, bombed it to Brown who was out numbered 3 to 1 in the square with the sun in his eyes. The only thing we ever got from this strategy was instant rebounds. Having said that, I think defence will be everything this week. Hope Hooks is still fit.

Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
Dont disagree. But Francis is potentially an elite defender in the making. He is also I believe on the last year of his contract and we know he has various challenges in terms of being away from family in Adelaide. My concern is if we dont give Francis love at the selection table, he may well see his future elsewhere.Gimps wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2019 1:32 pmAmbrose is as safe as houses.s'dreams wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2019 6:49 pm Couldn't possibly drop Brown - 25 Possies with 9 contested, 11 marks and 88% accuracy.

Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
Both Crows and Port would snap him up in a heartbeat. But their needs are probably more forward (Jenkins, Ryder s forward) than immediate back.
Won't get much better than a 2nd round pick for him though

Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
Ambrose did a job on Hipwood so he's safe and Brown played the game of his career - so he can't be dropped.
I would think if J.D. is coming in then it will be for Clarke - even though I reckon he's been a more solid contributor than T.Bell.
If Myers doesn't get up then Guelfi is more likely to make a return than Francis.
Stringer provides some flexibilty - better centre bounce clearence player than Myers - that could open a spot for Francis if Hooker goes forward - or maybe Francis goes forward. But we know this type of creative thinking is beyond our coaches at this stage.
I'd like to see Francis, Guelfi, Redman and Ridley all playing together for a few weeks in the seniors and not making way for the more experienced, tried and tested, mediocrity.

Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
After 13 marks in defence, Hooker will be staying put.
The only chance for Francis is if Ridley or Redman are dropped....which to be honest would be tough love for both those boys, especially Ridley who copped being the sacrificial lamb early in the season.
I suspect it will be Redman out, Francis in.
Francis is too important for our future and must be managed carefully. Let’s not create another Bachar Houli situation.

Agree with all this. Not sure where they all fit though, unless we can turn at least 2 of them into midfielders.hop wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 3:47 pm Ambrose did a job on Hipwood so he's safe and Brown played the game of his career - so he can't be dropped.

Redman was great on the weekend and will play a different role to Francis. Ridley more likely to go out. Hearing a whisper he is sore.Windy_Hill wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 4:05 pm After 13 marks in defence, Hooker will be staying put.

We don’t know, there will be rotation with another short break.
Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
And either of them clubs could have had him back for about three-pence last year and delcined the offer....bet they both wished they hadn`t now.
Re: R5 Essendon v North Melbourne
Hearing Smith and Zaharakis in doubt for tomorrow.
Oh no!
Teams out shortly so at least we won't have long to wait to find out.
Team announced:
Smith is OUT. Guelfi IN.
No other changes

Not sure what the issue with Smith is. He is clearly not at his best this season - he's been ok.
I wonder if he is carrying some injury...maybe keeping him for ANZAC?

Watched Woosha's selection interview - Smith being managed for his chronic knee issue.Windy_Hill wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 6:41 pm Not sure what the issue with Smith is. He is clearly not at his best this season - he's been ok.

He talked about Brayden Ham being included as an emergency too.
