Finals 2019

Post by F111 » Sun Aug 18, 2019 12:12 am

Well, we're in. :-"

How far, who knows :?: #-o

If GWS win and we beat Collingwood, I suspect we'll play Collingwood again, otherwise GWS in Sydney. [-(

Whatever happens we'll be in an Elimination.
Just hoping we can win it. Just that and I'll be happy.
Funny though, what a difference a week makes. Out of finals and our season would effectively be over already, but with a bye week, the season is extra prolonged (even if we lose the Elim). And that's a bonus for me because I love footy, and especially this Club. At least 3 more weeks remaining...yayyyyyy.

September Action means more Footy.

Every team that Qualifies for that, should appreciate it!

How far a Club can take it,depends on more than just a few factors!

How far can we take it?

Who knows, but whilst the season is still alive,we should just ride every bump with the boys, until The Final Siren on the season blows!

It could be the 1st week of the Business end of the season,or a few weeks later.Who knows, but the good thing about going deep into September,is knowing how much better it is,as opposed to sitting on our Arse, waiting for next year.

Take it from me,I KNOW!

21 years of finishing in Mid to late August has told me that!

Some interesting selection decisions to make with a finals place guaranteed.

I personally would rather Collingwood at the G for the Elimination so perhaps it’s better to let them win and pass them the 5th spot while we aim for 8th. Not sure how GWS are placed if they lose to Bulldogs and beat Gold Coast

Back to selections....do we give players like Heppell, Fantasia and Hooker more rest?? Or is the bye week enough

Will Bellchambers be back?

Did BZT do enough to go another week allowing Hooker a further week off.

Is there a risk in resting players even if they need it given they would in fact have 2 weeks off and the loss of momentum that represents (1990 anyone?)

Yeah, interesting questions.
I think we have to ignore what other teams do and simply back our own plan.
With that in mind, I'd rest Heppell, Fantasia and Hooker, and give Bellchambers another week (although I doubt he'd be ready next week anyway).
Definitely think BZT did enough tonight. Wasn't outstanding in any way, but he played a role to allow Hurley to do his job.

New scenario where we play and win 4 finals at the G. :D

R22
Richmond (WIN) V West Coast
GWS V Western Bulldogs (WIN)
⬇️
R23
Collingwood (WIN) V Essendon
(5 day break, Perth trip and lull them into false sense of security by cunning plan)
West Coast (WIN) V Hawthorn
Western Bulldogs (WIN) V Adelaide
Richmond (WIN) V Brisbane
⬇️
Finals Week 1
1 Brisbane (WIN) V 4 Geelong
6 Collingwood V 7 Essendon (WIN)
5 GWS V 8 Western Bulldogs (WIN)
2 West Coast V 3 Richmond (WIN)
⬇️
Semi Finals
Geelong V Essendon (WIN)
West Coast V Western Bulldogs (WIN)
⬇️
Prelim Finals
Brisbane V Western Bulldogs (WIN)
Richmond V Essendon (WIN)
⬇️
Grand Final
Essendon vs Western Bulldogs
⬇️
ESSENDON WIN Grand Final! (and SWEET REVENGE)
Regards

Another nice dream. This time I’ll say let’s see how it pans out.

I suspect we’ll finish 8th,unless we knock off the Filth next week.I hope we can, which would take us to Western Sydney. If we don’t And the Dogs take the last spot,we’ll face the Filth again,I imagine.

Whoever it is,I look forward to seeing us play.

We beat filth and giants win both games, we play filth as away team.

Giants somehow drop both matches and we beat filth we host Giants at the G...

Anything else, we play Giants in Sydney...

Footescray belting GWS, so if they win next week, if filth beats us we finish 8th & Brisbane beat the tiggers, we'll play the tiggers.

Great win and the needed response to the two previous weeks of utter tripe.

Happy for all fans that we can have a bit more footy than normal. We all deserve the positivity that comes from that.

No doubt that returning players made a significant difference. ( not to excuse the efforts of the previous two weeks)

I hope the game plan can hold up in tight, pressure finals football. Reality Check now.

We were thumped in almost every statistical category against the Dockers. We are still not winning the contested ball or the clearances. How Fremantle were dispatched so easily is a mystery. I would suggest that they allowed us to counter attack too easily and Saad, McKenna and Hurley were instrumental in providing very effective drive from defence. The problem is Fremantle did nothing to protect the central corridor and pretty much gifted us multiple opportunities to switch play and centre the ball.

Strong, disciplined teams won’t allow us to do that. We are still falling we’ll behind in Marks, Tackles, Stoppages and Contested possession inside our forward 50. Without goals from the D50, we do not really have an obvious path to goal.

So let’s enjoy the win and the guarantee of finals footy. But let’s also be mindful that there remains a great deal of work to be done.

As I said, we beat Filth and GWS somehow get eclipsed by Suns we finish 6th and host Giants.

GWS win and or we lose to Filth we play Giants in Sydney...

Regardless, we know we will be playing the Giants, question is where. Likely Sydney, but we’ll know for sure next year 👍

Now its getting interesting. GWS have had nearly as many mind farts as we have and one at our hands. How is their injury list after the doggies? Now it depends very much on our coach and our returning players as to how far we go. We'll probably have to wear Zombie Clark but if I see McNiece or Myers selected anywhere from now on, I'll know that Woosha is rooting for another team. :(

I dont really care if we beat Collingwood next week. As long as we put in a competitive showing.

We could well be playing them in week 1 of the finals. THAT IS THE GAME WE MUST WIN.

Win one final and that will break the 15 year mental shackles that has haunted our club. If we win 1 we can win 2. Now that would be a pass for the year.
